The UK airline is introducing free high-speed onboard wifi by way of satellite agreement

Flyers on the airline are set to access fast internet in the air at no cost due to a recent partnership from SpaceX's satellite provider.

Complimentary and Fast Internet Available to Everyone

The carrier announced that the complimentary, “reliable and lightning-fast” wifi offering through SpaceX is set to be available to passengers flying coach, business, and first class as of soon.

Widespread Implementation Across Multiple Carriers

The holding firm for British Airways, IAG, confirmed it had secured an agreement with the satellite firm for providing wifi coverage on over 500 planes operated by its carriers, including the Irish airline, Iberia, plus Vueling.

Smooth Connectivity starting at Gate to Arrival

British Airways noted that this rollout for the system was part of a £7bn “modernization” program and will provide lag-free internet access for passengers starting at boarding through landing, also when traveling above seas and remote regions.

Passengers may connect multiple gadgets while they will not require a separate login.

“Gamechanging for the airline as well as travelers, improving their experience in the air on BA by giving passengers continuous connectivity from start to finish.”

Present Wifi Options

Restricted wifi access remains offered to BA travelers on the majority of their aircraft using their .air platform.

Participants in the airline's frequent flyer program can dispatch messages plus text-only messages in the air without paying, while flyers looking to stream music, video, and movies during their flight if not travelling in premium cabins can expect to be charged from four pounds ninety-nine to £21.99 for a connectivity plan.

SpaceX’s Infrastructure

Starlink operates a system of many thousands of orbiting devices and is managed under Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Ongoing Developments for British Airways

The airline's leadership are focusing to revitalize operations around following a period of cost cutting, IT problems, labor disputes, and staff cuts.

The airline stated that implementation of artificial intelligence has assisted the airline to achieve their timeliness to the best levels from over a decade ago.

Profit Performance

Recently, British Airways disclosed a increase in financial performance for the first six months of this year, helping to push IAG’s earnings upward.

International Airlines Group will release its financial performance for Q3 recently shortly.

Additional Satellite Deals

The airline's announcement comes shortly after mobile phone carrier Virgin Media O2 announced it was teaming up with Starlink to improve mobile network connectivity in the countryside of the UK, enabling customers to seamlessly hook up mobile devices using orbiting devices if there is no regular network coverage can be found.
