NFL Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to seal the ugly win.
Dominant Display Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after giving up a two-point play in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes left.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a possible winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion instead of sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with negative ten net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach commented after the contest.
