The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans issued by the United States against five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on individuals that were central to efforts to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
