Diving into an Unique Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure features a protagonist that is literally a turd striving to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, battle boss fights and access a market to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.

Time your jumps precisely, as a error requires starting over. Leap using air pockets to launch the poop upward, traverse crumbling platforms, and touch switches to unlock new areas. Gather currency to purchase challenging levels where the action ramps up.

Visually, the game boasts vibrant level designs and an amazing music score. The retro graphics featuring shifting basic polygons evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to name previous releases where you control a dung character, video games often included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, such as winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on computers in the fall.
